Outside.....

The wind is blowing heavily in my little patch today. The rain lashing through the night and morning. My poor little roses have been blown from pillar to post. My giant poppies look sad and sorry for themselves.

I love this weather though. I guess I love it because I am fortunate. Fortunate that I don't live in flood prone areas. I love to have all the windows in my bedroom open at night. I love to see the curtains blowing. I love to hear the rain lashing, the wind howling. It is strangely uplifting.

The half term week has been wet and cold. It so often falls flat when the kids are on a holiday...but nevermind. We have had a relaxing week. The Bears have enjoyed it. I have enjoyed it. I have enjoyed feeling proud to be British as the Jubilee took place. I have enjoyed resting my weary legs from all the darned walking everywhere! I have enjoyed waking, and thinking, ooooooooh I can have another half an hour to daydream. Perfect!

I hope if you were off for the half term, you managed to have a decent week. There's always the weekend to look forward too!

I have been dabbling in a little crochet this week. Bits and bobs. Starting new projects before others are finished. I don't think I have it in me to just stick to one, two or even three things at a time. Oh well, it's all good fun!

Have a wonderful weekend all!

xxx

P.s Thank you for your comments on my last post. It's funny that most of you thought I would be blonde!

  1. Hello! I know what you mean, I love to lie in bed and listen to the wind and rain; it definitely is strangely comforting!! Isn't it typical with the weather just when it's half term, I expect the sun will shine next week when the children are back at school, I do feel sad when the holidays are over x

  2. Hi Vanessa, I'm glad you have had a relaxing break...you sound much refreshed . I've had a great time with my boys despite the weather , we have all got crafty and it's been great not having to rush about and not having to make packed lunches. The older I get the happier I am to stay at home all day...I'm never bored....I just love it .

  5. Isnt the weather horrid, well, nice if you can stay inside, horrid if you have outdoorsy things planned. As a teacher who has reports to write and lessons to plan tho i have secretly been quite pleased. At least I havent been distracted from my work by the weather.
August however had better be another story! ;)

  8. The weather is exhilarating isn't it. We love having the windows open at night too! I think we're the only ones in our street who have them slightly open even when it's snowing! Lol :) and indeed, who cares how many projects we have on the go! Life's too short to feel guilty about the things we do which give us pleasure, jump in with two feet and start another project basket I say!!! Long live creativity!!!! I can't wait to sit in bed tomorrow morning with tea and crochet. I refuse to move!!! I need it :)

    Love & hugs,

  12. Hi Vanessa, Your wonderful descriptive post made me feel all cosy and warm - you have a great way with words and an even more wondeful way with images. I often show your blog to my dear Mum, who is not very IT literate, but she adores it and calls your blog 'the pretty one'. I am delighted that you have beautiful dark hair by the way - snap! 13. the weather here is also battering my long thin garden! the peony i saved was the last on the bush, although the petals on the path looked pretty, if a little forlorn, looking forward to some pictures of the Cocorose patch perhaps?:)

  14. My garden has been battered by the wind too, but mostly it's survived intact! The week has gone so fast though hasn't it, I love being on holiday. Yesterday we went out in the wind just to go and look at the sea, brilliant, soooooo windy nearly got blown away, such fun!

  22. How lovely to hear that others like so-called bad weather. I also feel cheerful when it is misty or rainy or cold or all three.

  24. Oh I know what you mean, why finish a project when you can just as easily start a new one???? I have as many WIPs as I do up and coming projects!

  25. I loved the way you wrote about the rain and wind blowing at night...I feel the same (though I usually shut the window!) I don't really mind the misty grey days as a contrast to bright sunny ones, I really like the variety of our weather. It does do a lot of harm to the flowers though, as you say, and I'm treasuring the roses at the moment and brigning lots inside to enjoy fully :) Have a happy weekend...whatever the weather.
