So.......

....the house is a tip....

I've given up trying to make it look decent.

I hope people give me at least 5 minutes notice before they turn up.

I realise with 3 boys being at home all day, I am not going to win the battle, and may as well just bide my time until the start of the school term and normality can resume.

They have been good actually. Three boys in one space for too long is usually a disaster. I am not tearing my hair out......

....but the mess...........oh the mess.......

I'll just have a cuppa and forget about it all........

  1. Very sensible - it wouldn't stay tidy for more than a few minutes; just think of all that wasted effort when you could be sitting down and enjoying a cuppa! Especially from such a pretty cup & saucer!

  2. My Mother used to say "It's not going anywhere, it will still be there tomorrow so just ignore it and enjoy time with your kids".
    Worked for me.

  3. Oh yes, I know the feeling! I am learning to ignore the mess and clear patches of space for things we are doing (painting, ironing, cooking!) I am lucky that my 13 year old can cook (he just made his own pasta sauce and did lunch) and hubby cooks too (chilli tonight) so I won't grumble about unmade beds and dirty dishes too much as I know many mums would be envious of the catering arrangements here!

  4. Rather your three lovely boys with you.....and the mess, than an empty house.
Tea always soothes at times like these, especially out of such a pretty cup. :0)

  5. I know what you mean....we just close our eyes and step over things. I believe a home is not "lived" in unless you have children to show off their play!!!!!

  6. Same story here ... mess everywhere ... no sooner tidied one room til the next looks like a tornado has hit .. but the little ones are happy and school starts in less than two weeks ... I think I may grab a cuppa and my crochet hook and relax ... and just let it be ... Bee x

  8. It's comforting to know that things are the same everywhere! There's simply no chance for sparkling clean rooms when the whole family is at home ;-)

  11. Me too! I've just tripped over the biggest pile of Barbies and had to move a mountain of my little ponies before I started dinner, little Bea decided they needed washing! I've decided to spend the next 2 weeks with my blinkers on......Ada :)

  14. Your crochet and cross-stitch you look wonderful.
In 2 weeks with us will go back to school and I hope it returns here again a little rest. Children can create so much and so fast the perfect chaos. So fine drink tea and swing the Haekelnadel. This is pure yoga.

  15. Yes, just relax and go with the flow of family life around you! You can tidy up and sort it all out again later when school starts :) Your pictures in this post are so beautiful, and I love the embroidery.
    Have a lovely week, Vanessa.

  17. Rest assured you're not the only one.....4 angels, 24/7, 4 weeks equals total mess here too.....sometimes it feels better when you know you're not the only one....the countdown is now on for back to school.....getting uniforms sorted, pens and pencils purchased, new school shoes bought....I definitely think a rest with a cuppa is in order. Gorgeous cross stitch and crochet cushion! Enjoy the last couple of weeks.....hopefully with some good weather....SassyBelle -xxx-

  18. A cup of tea is the cure all for everything. It is a bit disheartening in keeping one's home tidy, with little ones about. Thank goodness most people understand that!
    Enjoy your cuppa. :)

  19. Ah, let it go. The mess is not that important, a happy time is. That's what children will remember. Groetjes, Gerda

  21. I know exactly how you feel. It's certainly an uphill battle keeping the house tidy during the holidays and it's a battle I'm not winning either. Especially after a weeks holiday and a mile high stack of washing. Oh well, maybe I'll catch up in September!

  22. aahh bless you i have 2 boys as you know but luckly for me the only mess is confined to their own room. I have given up in trying to clean that while they are home. Plates and cups walk in there and never make it out i make them bring them down now and wash it themselves if i don't see the dishes for a few days ;-)) Enjoy your week, dee x

  24. Oh boy... same here! I don't really like my house anyway and having 6 pets and 2 teenage step daughters living with us is exhausting!

  28. I do empathise Vanessa! I too have boys (2) and my house is a bomb site in the mornings whilst they have been up earlier than me surfacing from my slumbers. The lounge is usually turned into a fort with all cushions including the sofa seat and back cushions. Then there is the plethora of nerd bullets scattered around from the "battles" and of course the cars which litter the landing space as they overspill from the bedrooms!

  29. I think just looking at your pretty cups and ignoring the mess around you should do the trick. - Annie

  32. School started 4 days ago for my son. As much as I disliked his school last year (he had a burnt out teacher and blaise principle) I don't think I have ever been so glad to send him anywhere. 90% of the summer break he was perfect as pie. Then 2 weeks before school starts he turns into Satan's offspring (I swear I saw the horns and tail!), terrorizing his poor sister (he is 7 and she is 3)and driving me up the wall. I haven't been able to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea until today. Granted it's grown cold as I sit at the computer and browse through crotchet stitches trying to decide which one I want to try before I start a few baby blankets for family, but it's still soothing. I've decided the serious house cleaning can be put off a little longer, I'll just tidy up the 'public' rooms in the house in case of guests.

  33. Housework is fine if you have nothing better to do but be honest, does the world really stop turning just because the dust is collecting? Philippa xx
PS I love the Kate Bush quotation. It's a favourite album of mine. It suits your blog perfectly.

  34. Hi... I know the feeling. I think we all do. Hope things have settled a bit and that you are back into school routine. It helps. At least it has helped me. Although the house is still a mess and for that matter... Hmmmm.

If I don't have visitors it feels like it is only me suffering from living in a mess. Everybody else seem to thrive and be extremely happy in unmade beds, with toys spread out in every room, shirts thrown over chair backs, stuff... Just stuff everywhere. As long as my bed is made and the kitchen counter is kind of tidy I guess that is okay. If I die tomorrow who cares anyway. Really?

So put your feet up in that wonderful picture space of yours and crochet a few stitches. The days will come when no bears will be around and you can have that wonderfully tidy place called home without the slightest effort...But then I guess you will look back and miss these days... Why is it always like that?
    Hugs
    Annette
