I really am not sure what I would have done had I not learnt to crochet. I have a lot of blankets to show for it many years later, and each one is loved and used. I think that's one of the most satisfying things! The blanket I made for Minnie I used the pattern format by Lucy from Attic24. If you search her blog page, I believe she has all her blanket pattern links on her sidebar. I thinks it's actually the easiest ripple pattern. There is something so soothing about making a ripple blanket. the repetition is gentle and calming.

This year has been a year where I have lost my way a bit with making. I am not sure why, but I just hadn't really felt inspired. Having said that, Just last week, I woke up with an urge to make something. After a yarn purchase, I may have my hands full with a new winter blanket on the way! I think the thought of making something in the dark evenings began to appeal, and the thought that you get the warmth of a blanket on your laps as you make it seemed even more appealing!

Best wishes with your blanket making! xxxxxCoco Rose Diarieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00708755502453874593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105382986664426959.post-3501989567139258722022-10-23T17:58:11.108+01:002022-10-23T17:58:11.108+01:00Hi Vanessa, I hope you are well and finding peace....Hi Vanessa, I hope you are well and finding peace. Two things: it was your blog and your makes that turned me on to crochet. I stumbled across your blog and felt like I fell into a slice of heaven. So I kept coming back….and coming back…and coming back - and then one day thought: I wonder if I can do that and…never looked back. So thank you for inviting us into your world - we never know the effects we have on people or the gifts we give. Second, I’m wondering if you can share which pattern you used for Minnie’s blanket. It looks like a ripple but is it any specific one or….? Thank you - what a gift you have given me by sharing your beautiful crochet. I'm afraid I didn't use a speci...Hi there,

I'm afraid I didn't use a specific pattern for the squares. I just made up the kind of square that I wanted for this blanket. I have searched to see if I could find something online that is similar to link you to, but I couldn't. It's a basic 4 round granny square, but instead of the basic first round, I crocheted 16 trebles (UK terms). The second round I crocheted 3 trebles in every other treble from the first round (so it looks like a compact circle. I omitted the 'chain 1' between every cluster of trebles like you normally would in a basic granny square, simply because I wanted the blanket to be very compact and robust. The third round, I crocheted in between the clusters of 3 trebles, alternating between 6 trebles and 3 trebles. the 6 trebles become my corners. Round 4, I make 6 trebles again in between the third trebles of my six treble cluster. This becomes my final corner of the granny square, and for this round you have a six set of trebles and then two sets of 3 trebles before the next corner. If you look at one of the pictures closer, you can see just how I work them up. At the end of the square, the corners are quite rounded (because I omit the chain 1 to get a crisp corner as you usually would in a basic granny square pattern) but when you put the squares together they (square out). I hope this helps a little. xCoco Rose Diarieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00708755502453874593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105382986664426959.post-62606032237716343782021-01-29T16:44:26.809+00:002021-01-29T16:44:26.809+00:00Love your Isle of Sky blanket. Lockdown has been an utter nuisance with regards to socialising her with other dogs and people. That's going to be something I'm going to have to work hard on in the coming months. However, she is an adorable addition to the family. Once they arrive, you can't even remember life without them! xxxxxxxCoco Rose Diarieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00708755502453874593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105382986664426959.post-4735611261360224902020-10-30T17:55:21.735+00:002020-10-30T17:55:21.735+00:00Awe Victoria,

It feels like a lifetime ago, yet yesterday all at the same time. You wonder how you are supposed to act. It's surreal, and heartbreaking. You are mourning the loss of someone so dear to you, but your heart is also breaking for your parents going through the loss of their child. There is no manual for grief. I am just taking it a day at a time. Some days are good, some not so good. You probably know that siblings are the ‘forgotten mourners’, so I hope you have had all the support you need. I had grief counselling about 18 months after my brother died and it helped enormously. Even just the acknowledgment that it is normal to be feeling sad and lost 18 months after a sudden loss (which is really no time at all) was a relief to hear. So I hope you are ok, and if you ever want to speak to someone who has been through this, please let me know. Much love. Maybe I can use some raspberry twigs to substitute the greens you used.
I absolutely agree with you on the quality time with the family. Of course we all miss our relatives, friends and colleagues. And home schooling is probably worse for the little ones than it is for their grown ups. However, it is absolutely worth remembering that we would not be able to spend that much time together without the pandemic. We were still in our PJs this morning when we found that we fancied freshly cooked strawberry jam. So we just went for it and made one single jar. It would not have been possible, if we'd had to go to school & work. All the best to you and your family! Have not been able to locate that particular picture but what a lovely surprise to read your new post! Like so many others ( I am sure) I do pop in from time to time to get inspiration from your pictures. But even more, your words help a lot to realise that we are all dealing with similar issues. Creating lovely birthdays parties for our loved ones - your sons' bithdays must be on top of the list!! (My little one will turn 6 this Sunday, he was so much looking forward to a party which obviously he cannot have at the moment, but we will make up for the missing guests with a hopefully fun idea which involves pizza and a tent). You are holding a bit of a mirror for your readers and often I wonder, if we put ourselves under too much pressure? Please take good care of yourself and enjoy more of those lovely moments with your lovely family and sweet little puppet (hope you do not mind me saying). I am very sorry about the loss of your brother. I wish you all the strength in the world!!
