Appreciation......

Suffice to say, I'm glad we are almost at the end of September.

It's been an utterly PANTS month on the whole.

My waters have not been calm. Not even choppy.....but what feels like HUGE tidal waves surging constantly.

The good news, is that I've been managing to ride the waves on a little surf board......carrying someone on my back, and pulling people along either side of me too. I'm mega tired, but hoping I can carry them for a fair bit longer, while they need me.

In amongst everything that is going on, I've been trying to get a good balance going. Appreciating the little things....and finding happiness in my own little world.

I've mentioned Maeve Haran's book 'Froth on the Cappuccino' before. It's my 'go to' book when I need a gentle reminder of little things that can be just so great.

A small posy of flowers......a good drink.....5 minutes of quiet.....a hearty laugh......fresh bread......clean sheets.....ticking things off a list......ripe peaches.....geranium chocolate....conkers....a chilled glass of wine.....a smile from a stranger.....new yarn....wearing a favourite scent.....pottering.....fresh air....

Just little things. Little things that put a smile on your face.

My large carousel blanket has been on hold. I needed two colours to finish it up. I didn't want to be hasty. I wanted to find the right shades. I think I have done now, so I'm happy to be able to start it again soon. Also, one of the shades I bought is one of those HUGE great big balls. Oooooh I'm thinking BIG WIDE scarf with the left overs. I love feeling enthusiastic about a yarn colour!

In the meantime, whilst my blanket has been on hold, I have made a quick make which......I can only say.....has made me a little giddy.  More about that in the week if I get time.

So.......

I'm racing around trying to catch up with housework (my break was writing a post). Bleurgh, I hate doing it, but I'm so behind it's laughable! Seriously, I'd die if someone turned up unannounced at the door at this moment in time! (which I must say, the door just knocked as I typed that....ha ha.....just Mr Postie........phew).

Right time to scoot.

  1. Hey Vanessa, I'm sorry to hear September has not been that good, or even utterly pants. Having said that, you nevertheless did manage to make some mouth watering beautiful pictures... ;-) Love the colour combo of the yarn. Looking forward to seeing your side project!

Hopefully the last week of September is better! xhaafner

By the way, my oven broke recently, and before I could get it mended, I had to have someone come and clean - it really was that bad! Whoops!!

  6. Hey! Sorry that things have not been as you would have hoped/liked them to be, but as in waves, there can be both ups and downs.
Here's hoping that things will be better, I'm sure they will. Glad it was only the postman, that made me laugh!!!
And your photos are - a thing of beauty! (Hold on to that thought!)
    Hugs!!!

    1. The photo in the post shows yarn for my new project. That's Debbie Bliss cashmerino. They have such a gorgeous array of colours. For my carousel blanket I'm using a whole host of different dk yarns in different brands. Really just using up left overs from my stash, odds and ends I have just about enough of to get the colours I need! x

  17. My house looks like Vietnam in the 70's, like any warfield & I'm not proud, but can't help it either. I'm a gatherer. And to make things worse I find a second use to many things anybody else would throw to the trash. We're told to recycle and when we do we have the Diogenes syndrome. Anyway, I once read that we should always do, what we do when we procastinate

  18. I can so relate to you Vanessa! My little girl just started school and we are now on our 3rd week of half days. I feel like a headless chicken running to and fro. I also have a nearly 7yr old son so I seem to live at the school at the moment! Trying to grasp some kind of routine seems in the distance at the moment but I know it will come. I made the big leap and came of IG last week and it feels a relief not to be checking my phone every hour! Instead I am using my time for more important tasks such as housework! Crochet! or just spending time reading a book with the children. Anyway sorry for the ramble, but just wanted stop by and say HI. Sherrie xxxx

  19. Ah yes, it will all calm down soon! I always think the run up to, and the first few weeks of a new term are always so manic. I felt relief too coming off IG. I realised it had got ridiculous, me always on my phone sending messages or replying to messages and getting sensory overload. Whilst I do miss a lot of feeds, it's been totally worth it. I realised that my kids were growing up so fast that I was just not being totally committed to them. One less thing to be distracted by! I concentrate on blogging now and have fun on pinterest, but that's it in the realms of social media for me, and I'm totally happy with that! x
