A New Blanket Ta-Dah.....

Ahhhhhhh...

.......so the latest blanket is finished.

♥♥♥♥♥♥

A blanket which I have named....

The 'Blossom' Blanket

I'm not sure why I name my blankets, but I like that I do. They each take on a story as they are made, so I feel that they should be titled.

This was not a big blanket, which was lovely, but unusual for me. Again, I am not sure why, but I have a habit of making very large blankets. Most never actually start out with the intention of being big, they just seem to end up that way. Making two smaller cot size blankets last year for my nephews was quite refreshing. They still each took a while to do, but I thought that maybe doing another one that was a little smaller would be good. It wouldn't be for a bed, it would just be for putting over a lap in the evening if it was slightly chilly, or draping somewhere in the house.

It wasn't all that plain sailing with this blanket.....as you know.....I realised when I came to sew it together that I had made a fair few hexagons with mistakes in them. An extra stitch here and there whilst my concentration lapsed.

That was highly annoying, however, all was not lost. I decided that I wanted the long edges straightened off, so the offending hexagons didn't get chucked, they were re-worked into half hexagons.

Phew

The colour scheme of the carousel blanket was a winner in the house so the 'Blossom' Blanket carried on that colour theme.

I knew I would like it once it was done....and I really do. I finished it last week, but the light and the never ending rain, made it impossible to get any decent pictures. Actually these images aren't too great. As soon as there was a bit of light and let up in the rain, I hot footed it outside. The light still isn't great and the blanket was put to use the moment I sewed in the last end, hence some rather crumpled shots. Never mind.

It's finished....HOORAY!

I LOVE IT

It's definitely an uplifting blanket with a distinct 'Springlike' feel to it. It's what I need. I'm so done with this rubbishy depressing weather. I took every opportunity at the weekend to get out and about. I prised the Bears from their gadgets. I muffled my ears to their mumbled protests and we ventured out on a scenic walk. Trouble was, every one else had that idea too and it was HEAVING with walkers and families. With me laughing too, walking past families with their children bickering and moaning how boring it all was! Ahhhhh it so nice not to feel alone in the parenting game!

So, grey, cold weather is here again today, and rain set to ensue all this week.....

...butI have a little bit of 'Spring' in my house and i'm happy about that.

  2. Well if that doesn't lift drab, wintry spirits, nothing will! I adore the colour scheme, so soft yet fresh and spring-like, and it's nice to have a few lap blankets in the house, this will suit those cool summer evenings...yes, it will be summer again some day! :-) Chrissie x

  3. A beautiful blanket, I love the colour scheme, I always tend towards the pastel-ish colours rather than brights. I am working on a hexagon blanket for my youngest, how do you do the half hexagon? I'm sure I'm not clever enough to work it out for myself! Debbie x

  14. Love your blanket, Vanessa. Like you say, it definitely has a cheerful and uplifting colour palette whilst not being too "in your face"! I always try to make smaller sized crochet blankets (my xmas one being an unintentional exception), because for a start, huge ones take ages and I get bored, but also because I use my blankets on sofas and chairs rather than on beds, where I have my quilts and the cats would destroy the crochet! I wonder what project you have moved onto next?

  19. Beautiful! We definately need the 1/2 hex tutorial. Well I do as I have started this blanket from the colourful crochet book as a "travelling" project (limited palette so no need to take a basket full of wool).
    Thank you Vanessa!
(where did you get the lovely light from?)

  36. Lovely blanket Vanessa. I have to laugh at your weather comments as we are sweltering here in Australia at the moment. It is sooo hot. I am craving cold, rainy weather so I can curl up on the couch with my crocheting/book/hot tea!

  38. The colours are lovely, you have just brought a piece of much needed spring to my day! It's horrible outside isn't it? Maybe I should make the most of the time indoors and actually finish a blanket myself! For now I think i'll just admire yours :)

  41. Vanessa this is simply stunning! I love the smaller blankets that you can cover your knees with watching TV, thats the size my kids always go for. Its a beautiful job I'm glad you were able to rescue the odd ones you made too. Whilst making a hexagon blanket last year I lost the plot and ended up with a little pile of pentagons too! xx

  45. Lovely work. I remember once on a family vacation one summer when I was about ten years old, my dad stopped the car somewhere--a gas station probably--and while my brothers and mom and I waited in the car, my brothers and I started fighting. Inside the car parked right next to ours was another family with kids in the backseat, and they were fighting too, and when we heard their mom yell at them the way our mom had just been yelling at us, my brothers and I stopped and looked over at them. Their mom said to her kids, "See? You're making people look!!" but what was really funny was that my mom and those kids' mom exchanged "a look," and I remember thinking even at ten years old, "They're totally bonding over how hard this parenthood thing is for them and how crazy we're making them!" Telepathy was at work between them, and it was clear they needed a vaction from all of us. :) Poor Mom(s)! Hang in there, spring is coming!

  47. Vanessa it's really beautiful and I love the name you've given it. I'm rubbish with names, it just ends up "hexagon blanket" haha! The colours are spot on for this time of year too, soft and calm but fresh and hinting of the spring which WILL BE HERE SOON :D I hope :-) x

  48. What a wonderful blanket! I just keep looking at the pictures...
Coincidentally I'm working on a small blanket right now (my travel blanket), whereas usually I make bigger ones. Also I'm sewing the squares together (usually join by crocheting) - but the result won't be half as lovely as your Blossom Blanket!
