Summer
My kitchen
Lunchtime
Dark
Grey skies
Rain
Twinkle lights
Hot drinks
Cosy socks
What is going on?
I was seriously thinking more along the lines of iced popsicles, iced lattes, frozen smoothies, suncream and sunshine, rather than things to keep me warm! Can't win them all hey.
I guess on the plus side, I got my first summer holidays lie in which was nice, except I'm an early riser. However, it's lovely to feel snug and cosy with a hot cuppa, a bit of gorgeous crochet (seriously loving the new project) and hearing the gentle pitter patter of rain through the open windows.
Here's to finding the loveliness, whatever the weather!

Enticing photos and words.I love this little pretty post : )
ReplyDeleteI should have put money on it raining today 'cos I'd booked to have my hair 'done'! Am off to Moviola at my friends' village this evening and thought I'd make the effort - sadly although well cut, my oh-s0-expensive pampering in the head dept is now rather flat, due to hat and hood that was very necessary for my sprint back to the car (via Cath Kidston in Winchester for a picnic cool bag as a treat)! Yeah, I could have predicted the rain! I'll let you know next time .... in about November! Now I'm donning thick socks, wellies and more hoods and hats to take the collies out. Oh dear - hope it picks up over the weekend. Enjoy yours!
ReplyDeleteHi, I enjoyed your blog. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI know, what is going on!? It's horrible here too, very miserable and I'm cold :( Can't wait to see what crochet you are working on... what no sneaky picture? Oh poot! ;)

I've missed your pretty posts while I've been away on a cross-country move. I'm happy to be back and see that you are right where I thought you'd be. I so look forward to your posts, even the ones about rainy, gray days. I really love the color of your new project, whatever it is! Can't wait to see it finished. I'm dying of curiosity and wondering if I need to order some of that yarn to make one of my own.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely morning, if not of summery hopes and expectations! I've recently realized that as much as I love summery trips to the beach and spending time outdoors, my favorite part of summer is preparing for fall and winter!
ReplyDeleteAsí debe ser, disfrutar de lo que hay y verle lo bello sin importar que no esté fuera de tiempo :D
ReplyDeleteDisfruta de tus vacaciones y pásala bonito :)
The weather has been pants but secretly I quite like it. I feel as though it is preparing me for those cold autumn and winter evenings snuggling down on the sofa with a blanket and a hot drink. Although, I'd quite like summer to show it's face for a little while longer yet.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.

Gosh, it doesn't look very summery does it? And this morning, even less so. Yet we had a lovely snuggly rainy day yesterday, and I caught up with a few of those jobs which never get done on a beautiful summery day when we just have to be out doing things. So looking forward to seeing that beautiful crochet!
ReplyDeleteApart froma very mini heat wave we seem to be stuck in the cool and rainy days of early spring, certainly not what we expect from Summer.
ReplyDeleteLove that lamp <3
ReplyDeleteLove your pics and the lamp with the face is gorgeous! Can't wait to see what the project is you are working on!
ReplyDeleteI'm more than a little jealous here, since I've been staying in the house from 9 to 6 to hide from sweltering heat. I'm looking forward to fall.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I went from burning in the sunshine, to shivering with cold, all in an afternoon while at a Fun Day. It was weird as the weather kept changing about so often, it was hard to keep up. Today the weather is showing its true hand though and it's been pouring with rain and bleakly grey all day. So dark indoors! Perhaps we will be back to summer tomorrow though :)
ReplyDeleteSara
j'aime beaucoup l'ambiance de votre cuisine ! et quelle jolie lampe ! sandrine
ReplyDeleteIt is rainy wet and grey here again today (Sunday) although we did see some sun yesterday, but Friday and today have been horrible. Roll on summer!! xx
ReplyDeleteI'd gladly trade places with you. We're literally melting here in Spain. Even in my 500 year old stone house we use the fan. 30ºC at nite & over 40 during the day. The hottest summer ever.
ReplyDeleteSo... You're welcome to come & wilt with us.
Wow, I can't imagine heat like that! It's really cool and cloudy here. It's more like Autumn than Summer.
DeleteHooray for sumer lie in's...so much easier when the weather is rubbish so you don't feel as guilty being outside in the sunshine! Enjoy the rest of the Summer - heatwave due in August (or so they say - again) x
ReplyDeleteAt the least the gardens and the vegetable patches are loving the rain even if we are not :-) Enjoy your crochet, dee x
ReplyDeleteSo much rain! If only it would rain at night (I love the sound on the skylights) and stay dry during the day.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind a bit of your weather. It looks perfect to me. Sometimes I close all the shades and turn the air down and cuddle under the blankets, light a candle and pretend it's autumn.

ReplyDeleteThis is nothing to do with your blog post! I know you have said before that you would love to progress more with your knitting but feel frustrated because you don't know how to deal with mistakes. Well, I have been looking around on Craftsy today at their courses. I found something that may or may not be helpful to you. http://www.craftsy.com/class/save-our-stitches-fixing-knitting-mistakes/4000?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=2&rceId=1438098251878~dmzsm9wz I only got better at knitting myself when I learnt how to read my stitches and correct errors when I made them. This course looks like it might be really helpful.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried this course out myself. I have had other Craftsy courses though, and tend to find them really very good. The only one I didn't, I was able to return after viewing it all the way through as they have a full refund policy if you are not happy. Full prices tend to be a bit expensive for me but if you sign up and show an interest you start getting mail shots where the prices come down, often to £12.50 which I have been happy to pay. There are many other classes there that would help with knitting skills too. I have a lovely Eddie Eckman crochet one about joining crochet together and I learnt things I had not found elsewhere. Anyway, you suddenly came into mind when I saw it. I know I sound gushing but I have found my experience to be pretty good and I think fixing knitting mistakes is such a sticking point. Anyway, I'll stop waffling and hope I don't seem to be pushing this at you.
Sara
Ooooooh thanks Sara,
DeleteI shall definitely take a look. It could be my knitting phobia answer!!!!!
I think it's true, like you, I am only going to get better at knitting if I learn to read stitches and how to correct my mistakes when I make them. I think that's my fear. I feel like I need to spend a week just doing loads of wrong knitting and learning how to correct it. Once I feel confident then I can tackle projects with a better frame of mind, and can practice my speed.
Thank you so much for pointing me in this direction as it may be just what I need!
Have a super day! x
Your photos are all beautiful. The colors you use in your home and in your projects are so soft and beautiful. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteHope your feeling better. Not fun being sick in the summer. Have a lovely weekend.
That lamp! THAT LAMP!! it's too gorgeous for words. I want one so badly.
ReplyDeleteIsn't is wonderful that the weather is cooperating and gave us a sunny weekend? It makes all the difference. xx
Ok, after extensive internet stalking and googling things like "moon lamp" and "Mr Moon, Fur Niel" I now see that it's an IKEA hack. Did you paint the face on yourself? It's really good.
DeleteHi Gillian,
DeleteYes it's an IKEA hack! I absolutely love the poster of Mr Moon and when I saw a lamp that was simple to make, I was on it like a shot! It's a Fado lamp for £13. I used white acrylic with a sponge and sponged the inside of the lamp (that gives the craters when the lamp is switched on). I then used a black glass marker to make his eyes and moustache and a pink paint marker for his cheeks. It's so easy but it looks so effective. It was meant for baby bear's bedroom but I plugged it into my kitchen to see what it was like after I painted it and shamefully it never left! The lamp has an IKEA low energy led bulb so the lamp doesn't get hot (or even warm) so great for kids and not damaging the marker. I did see one the other day with a bunny face drawn on it, which looked rather cool. So many possibilities with this lamp. Are you going to make one? It's a fun and quick project and I bet Bella and Angus will like it! Xxx
I may well have to make one now, they're just so imaginative and effective. Thanks for the tips. Xx
