A grey mist has cast its spell this week.
The temperature has dropped.
The days are dark and damp.
It's now the time for me when candles make a permanent appearance, the smell of stew wafts in the house, 'mulled' stuff sneaks in, and cosy scarves are worn.
Today I have the chance to 'potter'. I am treasuring it. It is rare these days. I need it. Life at the moment is going at break neck speed in my little world.
I am way behind with everything still, but I knew that if I didn't get one day in where I could just take things slow, burnout wouldn't be far behind me.
So, today is a treat.
It's great to have a drink at a reasonable pace.
It's great to pamper my poor neglected nails.
It's great to put a wash on, and be around when it finishes.
It's great to be able to plan dinners.
It's great to be able to take pleasure in having candles lit.
It's great to have silence for a bit.
I have needed this.
It is SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD.
All go again tomorrow, but for today.......for this moment.......it is heaven.

ReplyDeleteIts lovely to open some Christmas music at home and having tea with candle light.
ReplyDeleteYour words just so pieceful!
Absolutely, you have to stop and savour those rare days or you'll go mad. Love your mantel, those little house tea light holders are gorgeous. x
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a little bit of time out. Life can be manic can't it, overwhelming in fact. I hope things aren't too hectic for the rest of the week. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteLovely post, love your beautiful mantelpiece:)
ReplyDeleteYour blog makes me ever happy.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to enjoy some peaceful time. I'm doing the same. A couple of days escape in the New Forest with a friend. Gentle walks, good food and wine have all been relished. Back to reality and all it entails tonight but I feel better able to tackle it all now. X
ReplyDeleteYes, to be able to put washing on, be there when it finishes and deal with it at the time does seem like a luxury. Hope you enjoyed the day and feel re-charged.
ReplyDeleteOooh can I join you Vanessa - that is just exactly what I need right now. Everytime I get home I just think how much I need a day to get on top of all the housey stuff. Your tartan scarves is gorgeous, I am hugely in to tartan at the moment and even treated myself to a yummy tartan duvet cover specially for the winter.
ReplyDeleteLovely post as always Vanessa,
Kate xx
Sounds really great. I never get a day like that!
ReplyDeleteI actually had a conversation with a colleague today that went along the lines of "I can't believe its only 3 weeks until the end of term!" I haven't even been counting! It's going so fast, I don't even feel like its nearly Christmas! Four weeks away and apart from work related stuff I've hardly given it a second thought! Hope you're keeping well amongst the chaos lovely lady x
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness I know exactly what you are talking about! I am in desperate need of a "just me" day. How wonderful for you to be able to do this! I am going to try really hard to work this into my schedule :-) Dana
ReplyDeleteI love those house candles - beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet...we all need your words. They inspire us to do the same!
ReplyDeleteSo wish you had the time to visit...very understandable of course.
Blessings,
Jane
Beautiful pictures, and sweet words. I hope you find more time to just potter and be quiet in your own space soon.

Stop the world and let me off, that's my theme tune for the moment too! LOL
ReplyDeleteCan I ask a very random question. I got a new fireplace in a couple of years ago and it's the same colour as yours. My problem it I'm still a bit precious about "sticking" anything onto it or marking it (I'm sure in another couple of years that will have passed). My question is, how do you attach your wee garlands to your fireplace? I would love to do something for mine, but I'm always stumped as to how to display it there.
Hi there, my little Pom pom garland is actually just held up by being propped underneath the big white candlesticks on either side of the mantel. It's only because they are so light really. I use low tack tape for mid weight garlands and I haven't attempted anything heavy yet! X
