This and That......

Not very word heavy today. A post of 'this and that'. I've been away. I've come back. It was lovely. I'm overwhelmed with the mess in my house. I've tried to enjoy moments crocheting my current WIP (Oh my word, loving it, but really nervous it's going to be pants when it's put together....cue disappointment city), but the house needs my attention, so the guilt factor is

E N O R M O U S

For summer, the weather has been utter pants, well, the few decent days, I haven't been available to enjoy. I'm still waiting. I need a few consecutive days of good weather to haul my dresser outside to sand and re-paint. Although, I see the weather report states a month's worth of rain in two days coming very shortly. I think I need to emigrate to sunnier climbs (southern UK, I'm sorry, but you're really not doing it for me this year......I'm a tad disappointed with you).

I have crocheted a little. I have baked. I have shrieked (I shamefully confess) at finding aqua pressed glass ( I mean, aqua....and pressed all together....like dreamland to me). I shrieked a little more at finding a turquoise pressed flower vase also. Seriously, I'm quite sad, but they helped take away the grey day weather blues. I bought up craft supplies for Baby Bear and I, and I shrieked (yes, I know, again, and it's getting a little embarrassing) at Yvestown's INGENIOUS CD/DVD storage idea. Because of that, I have freed up a couple of shelves in a cabinet to house more of my rubbish. Happy me.

Hopefully my little crochet WIP project will be finished by the end of this week and I can find out if it's thumbs up or thumbs down. Eeek.

 Be back soon.....

  2. It could be me writing this post - I am completely overwhelmed by all that needs to be done in the house as well, and I quite agree with you that the UK summer weather has been absolutely rubbish and depressing - it really doesn't help - none of us get enough sunshine. I am frequently wanting to emigrate to warmer climes and better weather.

All I can say is hang in there as I am trying to do.

    Loved all your photos.

    1. I think it's that double whammy of depressing weather and house stuff that is making it feel so pants at the moment. With sunshine and bright days, I feel energetic and enthusiastic about house cleaning. at the moment, I don't know where to start and can't even have the sunshine to lift me and think it really doesn't matter about a few piles of mess everywhere! Urgh, I hope it brightens soon.....and magically, if I blink my eyes, the fairies will have cleaned up my whole house! ha ha!

  3. Hi Jennifer, I believe it is Seed Stitch, the crocheter's equivalent to the knitter's Moss Stitch. I love Moss Stitch and wanted the same sort of effect with this project. I'm really loving the look of it.......and yay, I've more or less finished my WIP and I LOVE how it's turned out. PHEW, big relief!!!!!!!! X

  5. Hi, my summer here (US) has been hot, hazy and humid. This type of weather slows me down and I'm looking forward to the cooler temperatures. I really like your blog the pictures are always lovely. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day.

    1. Oh hot and humid are a pants combination too! I get slowed down by that too. We are having nothing like that this year here in the southern UK. As I type it's grey, and raining very heavily. Boo

    1. Hi Linda,

Oh yes, I forget sometimes when I say these sayings. Your term for 'Pants' is our term for 'Trousers', so I bet it is a little confusing. Our official term in the UK for pants is briefs/underpants (so us Brits giggle on American shows when they talk about their pants, as we think they are talking about their briefs). However, 'Pants' used as slang here means 'rubbish'. 'Oh that's pants'....'the weather is pants' just means it's rubbish basically! I bet you think we are a bit doolally!!!!!!!!!

      Delete
    2. Ha ha, I realised I just wrote doolally! Do you have that term too? It's another word for crazy/weird.

      Delete
    3. :^D I don't know "doolally" either. But we do have lots of slang words for crazy or weird, as well you must, too. But please don't stop using your unique slang. We Americans simply must succumb to cultural education. HAHA

  10. Beautiful images. Wet and grey here too (Devon), will we ever have a summer? Love all the shrieking you've been doing, so nice to find things of beauty. Looking forward to seeing your latest crochet, I'm working on a vast blanket, and it's getting a bit boring! And I LOVE crochet....so can't wait to finish. Keep dry and thanks for sharing :)

    1. Ah I know the feeling working on big blankets! I haven't made one for a while, which is a record for me, although, I fear the Autumn turn will spark off a new blanket idea. I have to be very disciplined when I make them because they can become quite boring to work on and my mind starts to wonder onto new projects! Keep at it, I'm sure it'll be SO worth it! x

  11. I, too, thought you had joined the 'dark side'.....of knitting!! (where I and all my projects live; not a crocheter here!) Love popping into this spot...always full of eye candy and inspiration!!! Thank you!! :)

  15. Lots of lovely things....but I love that hydrangea vase...so pretty, hydrangeas are about the only thing that doesn't get eaten by rabbits or snails in my garden....which is pretty impressive as they've quickly eaten their way through everything else....I must pick some hydrangeas and bring them in....not sure why I don't!

    1. I can only seem to grow hydrangeas and geraniums. That's about the sum of it! X

  16. Fed up with the weather here as well! I am trying to kid myself we will have an Indian Summer! As if! Glad you had a nice time away. Love your new glass and the photo of the bee covered in pollen. Hope you can make friends with your crochet project! xx

  17. Hello. Vanessa, I hope the weather improves in the UK.... It is frustrating when the weather doesn't behave, isn't it? I don't mind a crappy winter as long as we have a good summer.... I bet that when the kids go back to school, people to work etc... Then the weather will improve..... And we may have a great Indian summer that nobody can enjoy....(he!). I have escaped to my parents' in Spain where is sunny and hot ( sometimes even too hot).
Your new crochet looks lovely, I look forward to seeing it in its full glory. The pic of the bee on the flower is stunning!
Hope the weather gets better and if it doesn't, at least I hope you can find a silver lining in the cosiness of your home, Pati xx

  18. Why can't we ditch the guilt? I hate the way it ruins my plans and ideas!

I so loved her DVD storage ideas but could not make myself throw away those cases so didn't follow through. Might have to do it for my CD's instead though. I have a project coming up to at least hide my DVD's so I don't have to look at them anymore. It's a start until I have therapy and can ditch the plastic!

  19. While I was quite happy to throw away all the cases, the rest of the family were not! So they are packed away ion storage in case I ever decide to fill cupboards up again with them. I have to say, this way though, I've watched more films, as they are so easy to reach now! Xxx
