When The Sun shines...

......I feel like cleaning and sorting. I'm not sure why. My friend thinks it's the worst thing to do. As soon as the sun shines, she is out and about. Cold, grey days she feels like getting all the nitty gritty done. When the sun shines, I clean and sort. I usually like to sort out my under-sink cupboard kitchen cupboards and maybe, just maybe, looking at all the cleaning utensils, makes me feel like I have achieved something.......even when I haven't really. Anyone else do that? Or the old one......spray a little furniture polish in the air and suddenly you feel like a domestic goddess without lifting a finger.

Anyway, today was decanting my fabric softeners. I'm not sure why I do it. It just sort of makes the whole process of laundry that much nicer. Seeing as it's a daily job, I'm a sucker for making the mundane as nice an experience as possible.....just because I loathe it so. Laundry is a thankless task, just like ironing to me. It doesn't soothe me to iron like it does so many. Anything to make it more bearable.

A spot of sun is always welcome to do the daily routines. I have loved this September weather we have been having. I know it won't last long. The foggy starts to the morning, then it burning away as the sun shines. The nippier evenings conducive to blanket snuggling.

p.s I'm trying a different approach to blogging at the moment, to see if that will shift this blogging mood I have. I hope it's working, but my posts might be a bit sporadic. I'm trying not to think too much, so there might be a lot in one go then none for a while.

  4. It's your blog so don't apologize for what you have, or don't have to say. I mean this in the nicest possible way so please don't take offense. I have enjoyed your blog for some time now but I feel you are yet another lovely blogger who has fallen to the pressure pleasing an audience and is questioning whether or not it's worth continuing. Just be yourself - that's what attracted all of us in the first place!
This summer I read my whole blog all the way back to the beginning and realized that my blog is a wonderful little journal for me to revisit. I read things about my kids I had forgotten about when they were little and it was truly a heart treasure. My posts are sporatic; I wouldn't consider myself to have any blogging "voice"; I don't get many comments and I don't make it on many blog rolls, but I don't think it's worth the angst I see more and more among people who just want to chronicle a small corner of their lives.
    Am I done yet?
Yes, and really, I do have a smile on my face and am trying to give a bit of encouragement to you.
    Happy Days,
    Jenn
PS. Are those bottles by Green gate?

    1. Thank you Jenn,

I think I have just been wondering about whether or not to make myself so open. I'm actually an incredibly shy person, and when I don't think about blogging too much and just do it, it's okay, but when I think about it, it freaks me out a little. I don't want to stop writing my little journal, but it's about whether I need to post it online. Originally, this space was for me just to record my makes, and I can do that with my space on Ravelry. I like to take photos, but I can record them on my Flickr page. So for me, it is about whether this space has run its course, and whether I feel that what I have to say a) is of any value to anyone else, and b) whether I want to be the focus of anyone's attention (even for a brief moment to read a post). I like being invisible in the 'real world'. And yes, the bottles are Greengate bottles! x

  5. So warm today, that I've been shopping in a tee shirt and skirt!! Your fabric softeners look so pretty Vanessa. I make my own (recipe found on Pinterest) and pop them into glass bottles, not as pretty as yours though! Love the colours for your blanket in the last post too, gorgeous! xx

  7. It's always so lovely to find a post from you, it brings a bit of sunshine and color feast to my day. A washout for the upcoming weekend here, not that it hasn't already dump plenty this week. It makes it very hard to finish outdoor projects, like my make over of a laundry room cabinet, aqua blue of course. lol I too like to put my cleaning supplies in pretty bottles/containers (even those everyday items in the bath). AND I hate ironing! The only part I like about doing the laundry is when I'm at the cloths line hanging them or taking them down. Like one of the other commenters, I make my own fabric softener and laundry soap. Checkout Tipnut.com for loads of recipes. Hope your day is a great one!

  8. Anything to make an unpleasant task more fun is a win! Whether it seems silly or not! :D
But, oh, can I come live in your kitchen?! Your mugs and cups and kitchen-y things and oh, my little heart flutters! :D

  9. I have to agree with you about ironing. I only iron what has to be done.

  10. What beautiful bottles you've used to decant your conditioners. They look so pretty. I only iron what is absolutely necessary.

  11. Whatever you do to make your household chores more fun and your blogging more fun is up to you and as long as you enjoy whatever you are doing that is what is important isn't it! xx

  12. Oh, I agree with a sunny day and the urge to clean and sort - particularly in September. The whole new year, new pencil case feel. And pretty bottles always help! Though it is wool week next week so it seems only right that I do wooly things for the entire week...

    1. Yes I love the new pencil case feeling! I didn't know it was wool week next week. I think it's only right then that we indulge in all things woolly then!

  14. I so much like your blog and your lovely photos here. Its a great idea to put the softeners in pretty bottles. I used to have mine i plain glassbottles before but now they just in the boring bottles they come in......but thinking of getting something more pretty too......it DOES make it a bit more fun when you at least have something nice to look at.
I have recently found this little blog of yours and it would be sad if you decide to stop blogging....but I do understand...I think....because I have always been shy and like you I do not like to be the center of attention.....thats why I dont have a blogg....because I have thought about it and I like to take photos and I love the idea of having it like a little diary for myself. But so far I have not felt really comfortable with everything else...
BUT I do hope you decide to continue , it does make my day a bit more colourful and happy!
    Jeanette :)

    1. Awe thank you for your kind comments Jeanette. I don't think many understand the difficulties in doing something like blogging when you are a very shy person. It's a constant battle for me with the desire to be creative and connect with like minded souls, and the desire to be completely invisible. Perhaps start up a blog but keep it private so only you get to see it. If you like taking photos, have you thought about uploading them to Flickr as a way of recording them? It's a way of being creative without having to engage so much with others. Just a thought! Take care x

  15. I love the idea of making utilitarian things beautiful. Why oh why must those bottles be Greengate as that is so crazy difficult to get our hands on here in the states! I enjoyed every bit of this loveliness!
