Remember this?
My little WIP started last year.....
.......One thing I did take away with me on my little Christmas Hols was my beloved Evening Sun Blanket.
I started this blanket way back last year. She originally started out as a cushion. But as I started her, something happened...............
As soon as I had worked up a few little squares, I could feel this wasn't going to be an ordinary little project. Something rather lovely was starting to happen.
It's like she had a special bit of magic to her. Very quickly 'it' became a 'she', like she was alive and was willing me to create her. She didn't want to be a cushion......she didn't want to be a small blanket.......she wanted to be something of a proud size. A size that she could envelope us all within, and give us the best snuggles outside in the evening summer sun. Very quickly I fell head over heels in love with her.
Sadly, yarn shortage and the loom of Christmas and all its panic meant that she had to be put to one side.............. until I had time to give her my full attention again, and we could pick up where we left off.
Throughout Christmas I was in my stride again with her. She was lovingly worked on..............until, once again, yarn shortage were to part us again.
So, yarn now again in hand, I pick her up and carry on. I still have a way to go to reach the size she wants, and deserves to be.
She has such a calming effect on me. There is something so soothing in putting the colours together and watching her grow and begin to breathe life.
She has already stolen many a heart within the family, and the excitement at when she is finished will be almost too much to bear.
She makes my heart flutter

I love all your crochet, this is however stunning I agree. Can you say which square pattern you are using or is it one you have in your head?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours too.
Hi there,
DeleteThis pattern was one that was in my head. I cannot remember where I got it from originally, but it's one I use a lot as I like the shape. I know Lucy at Attic24 has a similar one and there is a pattern for it too I believe so it's worth popping on over and having a check! : )

ReplyDeleteI just bought some colors in yarn. Unfortunately in our country we don't get cotton yarn in shops. (Tropical country!) I either have to buy it online or ask friends to bring. But I am really dying to make something in cotton yarn.

ReplyDeleteThis blanket is absolutely gorgeous! ♥ :-)
ReplyDeleteShe's making my heart flutter, too! Your color scheme is inspired, and utterly lovely.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Just beautiful..What square pattern did you use? Love it!
ReplyDeleteI don't know where the original pattern came from. I think I may have seen it somewhere on a picture and just sort of worked out what I thought it could be. Lucy at Attic24 has a similar one though and has a pattern I think for it so it's worth popping on over and taking a looksie! I am hopeless at writing up patterns or doing tutorials, I always make them too confusing! : )
DeleteGorgeous! love the colours ♥
ReplyDeleteIt is the colors. The colors makes her shine in a very special way. Those washed out vintage pastels... Yeaps, I want colors like that too... Lets see, maybe for a patchwork pillow.. A new reason to splash out on some new yarn or fabric maybe and start yet another project... And throw the New Years resolution "finish what I started" out the window... I am tempted. VERY tempted...
ReplyDeleteOh! So beautiful! I just bought yarn to start my very first granny square blanket... I hope mine turns out as beautiful as yours! <3
ReplyDeleteJust love it & beautiful color combination!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
G
Very, very pretty! Your colors are amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh my!! She's absolutely amazing! I'm speachless... Wow!!
ReplyDeleteThe colours are gorgeous, and really calming. I've gone off crochet a bit recently, but your pictures have inspired me to pick it up again. Happy snuggling!

Simply stunning, and such a beautiful choice of colours x x
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness. So beautiful. Wish there was a better word tor it. It looks so soft. Could you please share what brand & kind of yarn? Plus if it isn't asking too much to share the name of the colors you selected? Understand if not. Thank you for sharing this beauty with us!
ReplyDeleteHi there,
DeleteI am actually mix and matching my yarns for this project. It started out as a cushion so I thought it would be fine to do so. The brown, dark pink and light pink are Wendy Mode merino mix yarns. The pale green is Sirdar Click DK in pistachio. The yellow is Patons Fairytale and the greeny/blue is Rowan Pure Wool 4 ply in eau de nil. If I was doing it again I would use Rowan Pure Wool DK in a similar colour way as the 4 ply is a slightly thinner yarn, but crocheted up it's actually fine and doesn't look like it is out of place! It sort of adds to the vintage-ness of her! : )
I loved this beautiful creation when you first showed us, and now it is looking really stunning! How fascinating that certain shades of yarn and colour combinations have such a powerful effect on so many people! I look forward to seeing the final pictures of this very special crochet project. Enjoy your cosy hooky time, Vanessa!

Ever since I first saw the pictures of the start of this project all those months ago, I was struck by just how beautiful it is! Love love love it Vanessa, it really is a gorgeous one! Sorry 'she' really is a gorgoeus one! Do you mind me asking what type of yarn you have used for it, would really love to try something similar! Have a lovely rest of the week, Jenny xxx

Such a thing of great beauty, I'm glad you're making a gorgeous blanket and not just a little cushion, you will feel wonderful under those stunning little squares!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love the colours, love the pattern, can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!
Emily x
I love the softer, muted colours of this patchwork/crochet, although I love your brighter pieces too. Looking forward to the ta-da post!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!
Gorgeous :D
ReplyDeleteAs an apprentice crocheter please excuse my ignorance when I ask how you are joining the squares?
Hi there,
DeleteI am joining them as I go. Every chain space (between the clusters of trebles), I crochet onto the chain space of the block I am attaching it to. It just saves time I think and I like that it keeps all the squares even. : )
It really is like that....you are obsessed or ho hummm...great to see and feel the love for this beautiful 'girl'!!
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely beautiful! I love the way you've joined each square - it suits her so much. Have a wonderful weekend hon. I hope you find lots of time to work on your gorgeous project. L xx

ReplyDeleteIt's BEAUTIFUL, such a wonderful colour combination - I think I'm in love too! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the same! I made a lovely cushion cover but it never fitted the cushion properly and started to grow on its own (stretched!) so in the end I unpicked the hems and have started working on it again to make it into a big blanket! I've bought some more of the same(ish) colours and I'm as happy as can be in the evenings now! ;o)
ReplyDeleteJess xx
