I Have Come To Realise......

- My laundry basket will always be like The Magic Porridge Pot in the Ladybird books.

- Knitting will ALWAYS frustrate me. My true love will always be crochet.

- No matter how much fruit I eat, there is always room for more.

- My Bears ears are tuned to only respond to key words such as 'food' and 'yes you can'. They do not recognise the words 'Can you give me a hand?' and 'can you help out more around the house?'.

- My moods are heavily affected by the weather.

- Nothing beats line dried Laundry.

- I have elements of Phoebe, Rachel AND Monica in my personality.

- I will NEVER tire of watching 'Friends'.

- I LOATHE cold, wet weather.

- My Maths isn't good.

- Nothing beats a pastry and coffee.....except warm fresh bread with a steaming hot cup of tea.

- As much a people pleaser as I am, I cannot please everybody.

- My brain isn't wired to be a calm and simple creature. I will always be a scatty mess.

- Bluey/Pink is NOT a good colour for me.

- I ADORE Clouds.

- I'll NEVER like Marzipan.

- Never go for a walk in the Winter without Wellies on. Big mistake. I NEVER learn.

- I find pale blue walls in a room to be the most soothing.

- Everyone is fighting a battle of some kind. Some people show it more than others.

- I REALLY like velvet.

- It's always the possessions you love the most that get ruined, chipped or broken.

- Kettles take way too long to boil. I'm impatient when I want a hot drink.

- I am no longer a mother to really small children. I've moved on from that stage now. It feels weird.

- My level of procrastination is ridiculous.

- I will always be a Magpie.

- 'Sparkly' will never bore me.

- I will ALWAYS be drawn to kitsch.

- My overt shyness can make me come across as aloof or unapproachable to people who don't really know me. I've learnt to be okay with that and accept it's who I am.

- Shoes and handbags do nothing for me. Give me a kitchen utensil any day.

- I'll NEVER learn to love lilac.

- I could live very happily on a secluded Island.

- I will NEVER tire of Montezuma's Orange and Geranium Chocolate. I...L-O-V-E....THE....STUFF.

- I have an unhealthy obsession with list writing. Never do anything with them, but I make them all the time.

- I am drawn to small pots. Always.

- I love accessories.

- I have taken over my house with yarn and blankets. It's all the Bears will have memories of.

- I'm truly AWFUL at housework. Life is too short to spend hours doing it when kids are young. It's pointless.

- Life goes on. Whatever happens.......life just goes on.

  2. Absolutely. The first on your list made me hoot. What a great way to describe it. Much more Phoebe (with a frightening touch of Chandler!). The shyness being mistook for aloofness, yes. Thankfully the special friends I have realise that. Love the photos. Have a great weekend. xx

  3. Hmmm, I could also tick most of these - except perhaps the pastry (bleugh), the maths (geography is where I struggle) and the shyness. Oh and it's grey that I look a bugger in!

The important thing is that all of these make you 'you' - creative, inimitable, warm, beautiful, genuine you. Don't change a thing.

  4. I have come to dread the 'homey' posts on some blogs. They depress me with their perfectness of both home and writer! You have done the opposite, you have cheered me up with pictures of blankets and clouds...I identify with so much.I woukd loce to live in a really wild place, not just a bit off the beaten teack. My children are now as good as grown up. We're living through change. Its the familiar that ties us together, give me a bit of yarn or fabric and keep your make up, handbags and shoes! I am rambling, day 9 of a horrendous bout of flu. Thank you for being inspiring, and maths is good! ;) Fiona

  6. Hehe I can tick most of those too :-) My children flew the nest ages ago though and I am only just learning to accept who I am. I'm so pleased for you that you have found acceptance of yourself while you are young xxxxx

  7. what a great list....some i could have written, but some so NOT me that i have to wonder how that would feel in the same person who loves the other stuff??? guess that's exactly why we're all so wonderfully different!

  8. I have always adored your blog. Today..my goodness...I think you have been sneaking a peek into my house! Sometimes I feel guilty for having too much crochet around, but my wonderful girl always says that's silly. She thinks it makes our house better! Lovely girl, huh? Thank you for making see others are like me! Happy weekend!

  9. Hi Vanessa
Tee hee, I love it and am completely there with you on the chocolate, laundry and lilac. Have to admit to loving a good bag though, don't even get me started. I also worry that one day I will discover my husband buried under all the blankets I have filled our house with ( Or caravan... see todays post !! )
Love, love, love your blog, don't ever stop.
    Hugs,
    Kate x

  11. Hehe - it's good to know who you are and hopefully others will accept it! I look forward to your cheerful blog each new post. I know you don't always feel so cheerful (I'm glad you are honest about it), but the pictures of objects and colors certainly cheer me up! I love that you surround yourself in these - I secretly love them - but must keep my surroundings are way more subdued for those living with me! Luckily - we are building a new house and I will have a room to do as I please!!!! Have a beautiful weekend!

  12. Just loved your comments and can relate - except I love Marzipan in a Christmas Stolle, but really only there. You made my day!!

  13. Loved this post. I can so identify with it, with a substitution here or there but not the last part, my children are grown and grandchildren now call for my attention and I wouldn't change it for all the time in the world!

  16. Hi Vanessa: I absolutely LOVE your space on the web. I've been lurking here for years. I love your dish pictures and especially pictures of your spoon collection, they make my heart race. I know, weird, huh? But love them I do. Here in the US I don't see things like that. Perhaps in more expensive stores but definitely not where I can afford to go. I remember an old post where you found some pretty spoons at a thrift, thought I would die! (-: I love your crochet projects and the fact that you "keep it real" - not every day is perfect, is it? I don't usually comment, but felt I needed to tell you how much I enjoy my time here. And if you don't mind, throw in a picture of pretty dishes and your pretty spoon collection every once in a while. (-:
Blessings from a lurker in the US.

  20. Wonderful in all of your many ways!! We are so alike and so different and that is so wonderful! I have only been reading your blog for a short time, but I feel that I know so much and so little about you already, so I am looking forward to reading and learning more. I can say though that I do love love love your crochet!! xx

  21. Beautiful post, amazing photos, and I've learnt a lot about you too! I can empathise with so many of your comments, like it does feel weird no longer being a mother to small children ... And high levels of procrastination!

    Have a wonderful weekend

    Love Claire xx

  24. OMG you have got me to a 'T' again....my laundry basket is the same....crochet has become my favoured form of yarn goodness....my moods definitely swing with the weather....& I hate cold wet weather too....yay to dry days for line dried laundry.....pastry and coffee always....I seem able to please very few, but try very hard to....I HATE marzipan.....couldn't agree more about the treasured possessions always being chipped or broken....my small children have moved on to being bigger too....procrastination is almost my utmost enemy.....I squirrel nice things away for a rainy day, but I then never seem to have the heart to use them.....my shyness also translate as unapproachable to others.....yes to the kitchen utensils, no to the handbags and shoes for me too....and yes, I am truly awful at housework too....I ask my angels to help me, but sadly their ears are not attuned....I really feel we've been separated at birth.....I feel lucky I have found such a kindred spirit who somehow manages to put my thoughts and feelings into words....thank you for sharing....your words make me feel less alone and more normal with what I feel are my oddities....you truly are a very special person -xx-

  25. Great list. Your comment about fruit reminded me of the time they told us at Weight Watchers that we could now eat as much fruit as we liked. I actually laughed out loud in the meeting because they have NOOOO idea how much fruit I can pack in! Weight loss...yeah, right. :)

  29. What a wonderful post, it tells so much about you. I am a pointless list writer too, I just love writing them and then throwing them away! I think your beautiful yarn and crochet makes such a wonderful backdrop to your home and such warm memories for your children. Betty

  30. SNAP! :-) Thank you for giving me my big smile for the day! Chrissie x (ps When I moved from the US to the UK, I left many pairs of shoes at my mom's house so I could pack my kitchen knives and favourite cooking utensils. She thought I was nuts. I bet you'd do the same...!)

  31. What a lovely post. I lurk here but just had to comment today. I love my kitchen utensils too. Even when the children are grown and left home you may still not care about housekeeping. I would rather sew than dust any day. I will do it eventually but I don't worry about it.

  32. I am with you every step of the way.... How I miss my small children.

  33. Never change a bit of yourself.

  34. This has really made me smile - like some of the others I have never commented before but this was just SO good. Montezuma's orange and geranium is AMAZING - last Christmas they had white chocolate orange and geranium 'snowballs' which if you can believe it were even better! List making, being drawn to kitsch, kitchen accessories, mood dependent on weather, housework, lilac ... this could be my list but I hve yet to master the art of crochet although it is on my list of things to do this year! x
