  1. Ooh, so yummy! I was looking at this book on Amazon but was not sure if it is suitable for me as I tend follow written patterns and i think this book has diagrams....? I'd love to know what you think of it and whether it is suitable for someone who has mastered the basic techniques of crochet and doesn't want to be defeated by diagrams. Thank you, love Tracey xx

    1. Hi Tracey,

I'm the total opposite. I find written patterns too confusing, especially on a big project. I lose where I am on the page all the time and it frustrates me. Also, I find that sometimes the wording can be a little misleading. Pictoral patterns for me are so much clearer. I can see where the stitches go on each row so there is no confusion. I often find pictoral patterns simpler if you are a beginner to crochet as it's hard to know where to put your hook sometimes. Some of the projects are straightforward in that book. I'd say give it a go. Pictoral projects in the round (such as place mats, doilies, pot stands etc) are easier to follow for a beginner. Pictoral projects where you have to turn your work are a little less straightforward, as you have to imagine that you are turning over the picture pattern which can confuse someone new to them. Having said that, once you get that thought in your head, then they are straight forward. Also they are universal. It can be quite difficult to remember which stitches you are doing on a written pattern, if for example, you crochet in uk terms and the pattern is written in us terms. Pictoral patterns just use universal symbols which makes life a lot easier, as I found out many a time! ha ha! Give it a go, i'm sure it wont be as difficult as you imagine, and you might even prefer it once you get used to it. I go for pictoral over written every time now! x

    2. Oh bless you Vanessa for taking time to answer my question so fully. I shall order it soon! I think I rely on written instructions because I grew up with knitting patterns everywhere but it makes sense to me as an Aspie who relies heavily on visual cues that the pictorial way would be much better for me! Thank you for your detailed explanation, you're lovely. xxxxx Tracey

  3. Looks like a gorgeous morning! I am contending with two incessantly hungry children, fixing the printer, a banging headache and wondering whether it will rain so shall I put my laundry outside or in? I would much rather be spending my time having a brief respite with a cuppa and some pretty inspiration...

  4. Sounds like the perfect start to the day - although I might not get any further than the tea and crochet. Lucky you - I'm in the office. Should be working by clearly doing a bit of blog reading!

  5. Looks interesting - lovely colour yarn. I bought this book a little while ago but I haven't tried any of the projects yet. I'd like to try the the coat hanger covers, if I can only follow the pattern .... Have a good week.

It constantly provides a dose of much needed sunshine. I love all your colours, as I share the same love for pastels and vibrant colours. Good luck with your new project, can not wait to see it. xx
