Today.......

...I'm in a thoughtful mood.

I often get bogged down in hearing all the terrible things that happen in this world.

The destruction.

The hatred for our neighbours.

It's there.....24/7 in the news.

It can often make one lose faith in humanity.

I feel that my faith has been a little restored hearing Stephen's Story

A heart breaking story actually, and one that has left me red eyed every time I read his story.

But.....totally overwhelmed at his courage and bravery.......and all those people too, who have been touched by it enough to donate to his just giving page.

With help of Jason Manford and celebrity figures tweeting his plight to help him get to his target, it has reached a much wider audience and touched so many hearts. That's where the internet comes into its own. I'm sure the Teenage Cancer Trust is overwhelmed by the support, and the money raised will help so many teenagers having to go though this in their lives.

Cancer is terrible. Many of us have been touched by it, either directly or indirectly. It's cruel. No one should have to suffer, especially young children and teenagers who haven't even yet begun to experience what life has to offer.

Life can be hard, life can be cruel.......but Stephen's just giving page and Facebook page show just how many caring and wonderful people there are in this world.

    1. Yes it is isn't it Kate. He has achieved so much in such a short space of time, and his legacy will help other teenagers for years to come. What a thing to be proud of. He has managed to bring this charity to the forefront and bring people together in their show of love and support. An amazing young man.

    1. Yes it is isn't it. When you hear so much bad stuff about people in the news, it's amazing to hear of such a wonderful human being trying to help others right to his last breath. To also see others so moved to help him just restores all faith in humanity. There are so many lovely and caring people out there that want to help. He really is an inspiration.

  3. I was feeling a little sorry for myself... a little blue and out of sorts... I had seen some bits of Stephens story via the good ol' social media... but I hadn't gone and had a look at his story - to be honest there are so many and sometimes they just make me feel worse about everything... But I sat reading your blog over lunch and your words drew me to his story, and I can honestly say it has inspired me - what a wonderful courageous young man - Cancer terrifies me and how people deal with it all so courageously never fails to amaze me it should bring courage and inspiration to us all.

    Thanks for sharing :D

    1. I think there are so many charities that never get the recognition that they deserve. It's a constant struggle for so many to raise funds. Stephen has done so well to tirelessly get this charity to the forefront of people's minds through the power of the media. It's humbling to see what he has achieved and totally inspiring that a light can shine so brightly in the face of adversity. What he has been able to achieve for this charity will help so many teenagers in their hour of need. I bet his parents are brimming with pride........and so they should be. A very courageous young man.

We recently lost someone in our family and the pain is quite unbearable, just reading Stephen's posts have made me able to breath (if that makes sense). Anyway, just to say thank you, your post moved me today. xx

  12. Dear Vanessa,
What a great post. I had never heard of Stephen until I read your post a few days ago and I was completely inspired by his story.
He is just an AMAZING young man. Your post brought me to his facebook page and in there I found a link to a book that he's written and a fantastic
video talk, have you listened to that?.
I feel that his message was the kick in the butt that I needed. Sometimes it is so easy to take health (and many
other things) for granted... and the big lesson is that we can't just wait for a terrible thing to happen to us to appreciate life, it has to happen from now. The good old "Carpe Diem".
Thanks for bringing his story to our attention.

  13. I completely agree with you...there have been some awful things in the news etc. lately, all so upsetting. I never understand how people can behave this way towards each other. Stephen is a great example of positivity.
